SUBJECT:
COMANCHE PEAK-STEAM ELECTRIC, STATION (CPSES)
DOCKET-NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 ANCHOR BOLTS SUPPLIED BY HILTI SDAR: CP-86-51-(SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT)
Gentlemen:
On September 14, 1988, TV Electric letter logged TXX-88659 notified the NRC of a deficiency involving anchor bolts supplied by Hilti.
This' report is submitted to update the status and scope of the corrective actions for this issue.
As stated in TXX-88659, to preclude the recurrence of this deficiency, the applicable Design Basis Document (DBD) was revised to incorporate the reduction in the ultimate tensile capacity for the affected sizes of Hilti Kwik bolts. Additionally, the related structural specification has been revised to provide, installation criteria consistent with the 080 for the 1
affected Hilti bolt sizes.
TXX-boos 9 also indicated that the as-built embedments depths of the affected bolts would be obtained via a walkdown, and that the capacity of the affected bolts would be compared to the design loads to determine the acceptability of the existing installation.
1 A partial walkdown of the affected Unit 1 and Common embedments was performed, resulting in identification of 594 1/2-inch and 3/4-in e diameter Hilti Kwik bolts with deep embedments.
An engineering evaluation was performed on the identified bolts. Appropriate anchor bolt capacity reductions were calculated and compared to the design loads.
This evaluation determined that all of the j
identified anchor bolts had sufficient capacity to support the design loads j
with the required factor of safety, and that no modifications were required.
j Based upon the results of the above evaluation, TV Electric concludes that the 1/2-inch and 3/4-inch diameter Hilti Kwik bolts will provide the required factor of safety, and that no further walkdowns or analyses are required to verify their adequacy for Unit 1 and common areas, j
