UNPLANNED RADIATION EXPOSURE AT TROJAN NUCLEAR POWER PLANT The licensee reported to a Region V (San Francisco) Reactor Inspector ensite on April 6,1978, the unplanned radiation exposure of two licensee radiation monitoring technicians at approximately 3:30 p.m. cn April 5,1978.
The exposure of the technicians occurred when they were conducting radiation survey measurements in an area within the reactor containment building adjacent to the spent fuel transfer tube, and at a time when a spent (irradiated) fuel assembly was being transferred between the reactor con-tainment building and the spent fuel storage building.

Preliminary estimates by the Portland General Electric Company are that the individuals received between 10 Rem and 20 Rem whole body bxposure.
Radiation i
m dosimeters (TLD) worn by the individuals are being processed to determine the actual expowres.
The results a,re expected by noon, April 6, 1978.

further radiation exposure pending continuing evaluation by the licensee.

A guard was posted promptly at the entry point into the area where the ex-posures occurred to prevent personnel entry and preclude recurrence.
A Radiation Specialist is being dispatched to the site from the Region V office on April 6, 1978 to investigate details of the occurrence.
A press release covering the occurrence is to be issued by the licensee on April 6, 1978.
Region V (Sar Francisco) was initially notified of this occurrence at 8}
8:20 a.m. on April 6,1978 when the Plant Superintendent notified a Reactor Inspector who was onsite conducting a routine inspection.
