I am writing with respect to your recent letter informing me of your resignation from the Advisory Committee on the Medical Uses of isotopes (ACMUI)..1 regret that the conflict with the emoluments clause of the U.S. Constitution, which put your sabbatical leave in jeopardy,' made it

-r necessary for you to resign as a member of the ACMUI.

As you know, the responsibility of consultants as members of the ACMUI is to advise NRC on l policy and_ technical issues that arise in regulating the medical use of byproduct material for diagnosis and therapy. The members are involved in preliminary discussions of major issues in determining the need for changes in NRC policy and regulation to ensure the continued safe use of byproduct material. Your knowledge and experience have been of great assistance to us in attempting to resolve the difficult and contentious issues that arise in regulating the medical uses ofisotopes l
