CONCERNING THE NUHOMS DRY SHIELDED CANISTER

o'n September 7,1989, concerning the Dry Shielded Canister (DSC) used in the NUHOMS System. The DSC is used to store spent fuel.
The NUTECH Engineers representatives discussed the possibility.of a 10 CFR Part 71 review of the DSC as a component of a hypothetical shipping cask. The hypothetical shipping cask would be defined by requirement parameters. The con-cept of the proposal would be a sealed. canister transported within a shipping cask to create a multiple barrier design in order to preclude water entry and to
. prevent criticality.
NUTECH agreed to explore the concept in more depth and to meet again with the NRC' staff. prior to submission of an application or a SAR.
