The Commission was briefed by the stai'f on the adequacy of NRC regulatory oversight of materials under a general license.
The Commission requested the staff to provide an analysis of potential health and safety impacts of' devices or sources under a general license, identification of those devices and L
materials for which greater regulatory control is needed, and more focused recommendations to improve the regulatico of materials under a general license.
In this analysis, staff should also assess whether there is-a-health and safety basis to specifically license some of these devices to ensure adequate control; to evaluate whether any devices are suitable for exemption from regulatory control; and to provide more focused recommendations on ensuring proper disposition and disposal of generally licensed waterials and devices.
