Facility: Northeast Nuclear Energy Company Millstone Nuclear Power Station Waterford, Connecticut

Subject:

TOWN OF WATERFORD EMERGENCY DRILL The town of Waterford, Connecticut, will be conducting an emergency drill to test their local planning on June 15, 1978. The scenario will reportedly consist of an adverse weather situation, a train derailment, and a release from a nuclear plant (Millstone). Comprehensively this will provide for evacuation of school children and emergency medical j treatment, including decontamination at a local hospital. Millstone's i and the State's participation will be limited to communications.  !

I NRC:0SP received a request from the State to have the Federal Interagency -

Regional Advisory Committee (RAC) act as observers during the drill. M The RAC will respond with a member of NRC Region I acting as Chairman of the 7 group which will include representa'tives of four other Federal agencies.

Media interest is expected because of the high level of public involvement and the visibility of these actions in the public sector. A press release is not planned by the licensee nor NRC.

NRC, Region I, (Philadelphia) received notification of this drill by '

telephone call from the NRC Office of State Programs in late May.
