Dear Sirs:
The University of California, Santa Barbara wishes to terminate license R-124 for the 10-watt L-77 nuclear training reactor.
The fuel has been returned to the Department of Energy, and the reactor has been decommissioned. A final radiation survey was performed by the decommissioning contractor in September 1986. The plutonium-beryllium neutron source was transferred to the State of California radioactive materials license and is now used and stored in Engineering, Unit II. The remaining material (reactor vessel and inner shield) was transferred to the State of California radioactive materials license, and stored in a special closed cell in the Engineering Research Center. Thus we request that the NRC complete the radiation survey of the former reactor facility in Broida Hall (Physics building), and that the license be terminated.
