On July 23,1997, Northern States Power Company (NSP) submitted a letter entitled.
- Evaluation of Capability to Mitigate a Complete Loss of Feedwater ATWS [ Anticipated Transient without Scram]," at the request of the NRC staff. The letter contained an evaluation
)
and supporting analyses to provide reasonable assurance that the Prairie Island plant is j
i capable of mitigating a complete loss of feedwater ATWS event based on the current plant i
configuration for control circuitry. This evaluation is being used only for an interim time period 1
L until permanent corrective actions can be implemented by NSP. The staff reviewed this letter
. under TAC nos. M99269 and M99270 for Prairie Island Unit 1 and 2, respectively.
On February 27,1998, NSP submitted a license amendment request for installation of an t
ATWS mitigating system actuating circuitry / diverse scram system, which will implement the l'
permanent corrective action discussed in NSP's July 23,1997, letter.. The NRC staff will review L
1 the February 27 submittal as a license amendment request under TAC nos. MA1675 and MA1676. Therefore the review effort under TAC nos. M99269 and M99270 is completed and l:
those TAC numbers will be closed.
