I have received your 7/10/89 request, your ref. 00030 for financial assistance for a research project concerning hydrologic modeling proposed by Dr. James T.
McCord of your Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The Office of' Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards does not sponsor research. That is the function of our Office of Nuclear Research. Based on a cursory review of the proposal by my Regulatory staff, we find that the proposed project is the type of work that has been supported in the past. Accordingly, I have sent the proposal to Dr. Nel Silberberg, Chief, Waste Management Branch,' Office of Nucler.r Regulatory Research for consideration.
He will contact you at a later date concerning the possibility of funding the project.
