As you requested during our telephone conversation of October, I have enclosed a copy of the draft report "An Appraisal of Nuclear Waste Isolation in the Vadose Zone in Arid and Semi-Arid Regions.

The report is being prepared for NRC by Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory (LBL) under an m

interagency agreement.

The enclosure is a final draft that was just submitted for NRC review.

Earlier drafts were sent to the DOE's Waste Management Project Office in Nevada.

If you have any questions concerning the report, I would be happy to answer them.
