COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES) 4 DOCKET N05. 50-445 AND 50-446 TURBINE BUILDING DESIGN REQUIREMENTS SDAR: CP-88-26 (SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT)
Gentlemen:
On February 4,1988, TV Electric notified the NRC via report logged TXX-88194 of a deficiency involving the potential for a failure of the Turbine Building during a seismic event, which was conservatively deemed reportable under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e). The purpose of this report is to change the status of this item to not reportable under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e).
As stated in TXX-88194, during design validation of the Turbine Building, it was determined that the existing structural steel bracing system was not i
designed with sufficient margin to preclude failure under seismic or tornado loads. Based on this finding, it was previously concluded that the Turbine Building structural steel frame required modification so that failure of the building during a seismic or tornado event would not impact the adjacent Seismic Category I structures.
