PROPOSED CHANGE TO THE SAFETY ANALYSIS REPORT FOR THE CNSI H0 DEL NO. CNS 8-120B SHIPPING PACKAGE Chem-Nuclear Systems Inc. (CNSI) respectfully submits the enclosed amendment to the Safety Analysis Report (SAR) for the Model No. 8-120B Shipping Package. The amendment proposes changes" which would provide enhanced cask operability and maintenance operations, as well as to make editorial changes which provide consistency within the SAR. Analyses have been performed to verify that no safety features, which were considered in the SAR, m have been adversely affected by any or all of these changes. 1 Enclosed you will also find a summary of the changes which have been made and a larger size copy of the 8-120B cask drawings which; should facilitate your review. Also provided is a guide page forO incorporating this revision into your copies of the Safety Analysis Report. In accordance with 10 CFR Part 170.31, enclosed is payment in the amount of $150 (one-hundred fifty dollars) for this proposed amendment. Also included herein is payment for NBC review costs associated with Docket No. 71-9108 (Invoice No. H0500) and Docket No. 71-9176 (Invoice No. H0511). E/3) Added View "CC" l .The Primary Lid is currently protected with a 12 GA (.105 inch) l SST lining (Item 58) which provides corrosion resistance. The I use of 3/8" (.375 inch) SST lining material (new Item 88)-i;) the area of the Secondary Lid ope *ing will provide additional protection and easier maintenance of the lid seal surface in connection with the periodio operation of loading the cask via the Secendary Lid, 2. (Sheet 3, Loc. D/3) Added Optional Detail "Q" An optional design for the primary and secondary lid lift lugs will provide an operational improvement for cask handling. The lugs will be made out of ASTM A518-70 steel (new Item 29). An analysis of the lug design has been included in the enclosed revision to the SAR. 3. (Sheet 2, Loc. A/8) Revised Detail M Detail M was revised to reflect dimensional changes due to the use of 3/8" (.375 inch) SST~ lining mat al in the area of the Secondary Lid opening. 1 4. (Sheet 1, Loc. E/7) Changed Item 29 to Item 87 Secondary Lid closure is currently accomplished with 2-8UNC-2A. x 4" long heavy hex cap screws (old Item 29). Use of 2-8UNC-2A x 4 3/4" long heavy hex cap screws (Item 87) for both Primary Lid and Secondary Lid closure will be an. operational improvement L by providing additional bolt engagement at the Secondary Lid seal and the use of one size of bolt for cask closure. l S.
