Dear Mr. Matthews:
Our cursoty review of the July 1989 pfRAP for the Ambrosia Lake UMTRAP in New Mexico found the documents to be complete.
These documents replaced'the May
'1987 RAP for this site.
This preliminary review consisted of a broad overview l
of the documents looking for " fatal flaws," unaddressed areas, and basic data i
and information.
A detailed technical review will be forthcoming at a lats date.

l As you are aware, your priority for this project is such that technical review comments will not be provided to you in the requested 45 calendar day limit.
- The project is currently scheduled for review to be completed in the spring of l
-1990.
If this is not acceptable, please contact this office with a revised 1
priority list.
Additionally, it was noted that your letter indicated th.at the documents-submitted to NRC were considered by DOE to be part of the deliberative process i
and were therefore.not to be released to the public.
NRC policy in this area requires that information not to be made available to the general public be classified as proprietary information as defined in 10 CFR 2.790(b).
Please notify our office if DOE is requesting to classify the documents as proprietary
-so that NRC can remove them from the Public Document Room.
