MINUTES OF NRC/NUMARC MEETING ON DESIGN DOCUMENT RECONSTITUTION

.0n April 6,1989, members of the NRC staff met publicly with representatives of NUMARC to discuss design basis document (DBD) reconstitution.
In the l
meeting, the staff described its ongoing efforts to formulate guidance regarding:
(1) the availability of design and design basis documentation l
necessary to support plant operation and future modifications; (2) the l
priority for reconstitution of design basis documents that are irretrievable and (3) the suggested content of system level and topical DBDs being prepared by licensees. NUMARC stated that they are developing an action plan to address similar topics since they feel, as we do, that guidance is necessary to help utilities wisely spend their money in developing DBDs. The NUMARC action plan is anticipated to be completed by the end of the sumer.

NUL1 ARC will be the' industry point of contact with NRC and will coordinate with INPO as necessary. ~ NUMARC stated that INP0 hosted several utility workshops on DBDs last Fall and is in the process of sumarizing these workshops to characterize the current industry perspectives on this topic.
It was agreed that future meetings would be held to discuss the status of both the NRC and NUMARC efforts as they progress.
