Judge Paul Cotter D0chti;w.,n f q, Atomic Safety and Licensing Board U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.
20555 fSERVEDJUL 3 1 198
Dear Judge Cotter:
Enclosed is a copy of a resolution that is being sponsored by Dade County Commissioner Barbara Carey which urgen the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board to hold the formal public hearings requested by the Center for Nuclear Responsibility.
I am a resident of' South Miami, Florida, and am very much concerned about the aged and detiorating conditions of the Turkey Point reactors, especially as it pertains to the embrittlement of the reactor pressure vessel.
I believe that the safety of the public can only be protected through the airing of the safety issues that have been raised by the Center and its scientific experts.
We are now well aware that it was the abrogation of administrative responsibility that led to the space shuttle Challenger accident.
Those administrators were well aware of the warnings of some engineers and scientists that the booster rockets had serious defects, but chose not to heed tnese warnings.
I trust that you will choose to err on the side of safety and prudence by allowing the divergent scientific views concerning the pressure vessel embrittlement issues at Turkey Point to be fully investigated in public hearing format.
Thank you for your considerat. ion.
Sincerely, K. Brickman Enclosure
