Operating License No. DPR-73 Docket No. 50-320 Response to Generic Letter 89-08 NRC Generic Letter 89-08 addresses the implementation of a long-term erosion / corrosion monitoring program to ensure the structural integrity of all high-energy eingle-phase and two-phase carbon steel piping systems.
As stated in GPU Nuclear letter 4410-87-L-Oll8, dated August 11, 1987, in response to NRC Bulletin No. 87-01, the type of catastrophic pipe failure described is not applicable to TMI-2 in the current recovery mode. Therefore, there is no monitoring program in place now, nor is there an intent to implement such a program during the balance of the cleanup. If a decision is made to restart TMI-2, this NRC Generic Letter will be re-evaluated.
