Beta Source DESCRIPTION:
The Model 3E4G is a doubly encapsulated, thin window krypton 85 sealed source. The 302 stainless steel 0.002 inches thick window is laser welded to the 304 stainless j
steel capsule with two circumferential welds. The inner capsule (constructed
.of 304 stainless steel) is filled with krypton 85 enriched gas through a 0.063 inches copper tube, crimped and. silver brazed upon completion.

of the source is 0.625 inches in diameter. The overall source dimensions, including the back plate (see Diagram) are I.938 inches in diameter by 1.090 inches in height.

Beta Source CONDITIONS OF NORMAL USE:
The Model 3E4G source is designed to be used in beta gauging devices.
PROTOTYPE TESTING:
3M reports that the Model 2E4G source has achieved an ANSI N542 classification of 77C32231.
EXTERNAL RADIATION LEVELS:
3M reports that the following dose rates for a 1500 millicurie source were calculated from dose rates obtained using a 800 millicurie source.
CONTACT 30 cm to Center of Detector 926 r/hr 36 r/hr QUALITY ASSURANCE AND CONTROL:
Each source is inspected visually for abnormalities, leak, pressure and output tested according to policies and procedures described in the 3M Static Control Systems Division manual. This Quality Assurhice and Control Program has been previously approved for licensing purposes by the NRC.

Beta Source LIMITATIONS AND/0R OTHER CONSIDERATIONS OF USE:
This source shall be distributed only to specific licensees of the NRC or an Agreement State.
Handling, storage, use, transfer, and disposal: To be determined by the licensing authority.
This source shall not be subjected to environmental or other conditions of use which exceed ANSI Classification 77C32231 (ANSI N542-1977).
This registration sheet and the information contained within the references shall not be changed without the written consent of the NRC.
SAFETY ANALYSIS
SUMMARY
Based on our review of the information and test data cited below, we continue to conclude that 3M Model 3E4G sealed source is acceptable for licensing purposes.
Furthermore, we continue to conclude that this source would be expected to maintait, their containment for normal conditions of use which might occur during the uses specified in this registration sheet.
