50-328 SEQUOYAH NUGLEAR PLANT (SQN) UNITS 1 AND 2 - INSPECTION REPORT NOS. 50-327, 328/87 SYSTEMS ENGINEERING PROGRAM UPDATE

~

In accordance with TVA's commitment contained in the letter from R. L. Gridley to NRC dated May 26, 1988, TVA is providing the current status of the SQN Systems Engineering Program.

TVA has implemented the Systems Engineering Program at SQN.

Sequoyah Standard Practice SQA168, " Systems Engineering," outlines the areas of responsibility assigned to systems engineers and the qualifications necessary to perform that function.

The Technical Support Superintendent, under the Plant Manager, has staffed the Systems Engineering organization, and applicable plant systems have been assigned to systems engineers.

In addition, design project systems engineers and discipline staffed systems engineering specialists have been assigned to the applicable plant systems.

Systems Engineering provides the central focal point for the site for evaluating system performance and design-related problems identified in the plant.

This process has been successfully used to support the restart of both units at SQN.

The systems engineers have been proactive and responsive in aiding Operations and Maintenance in solving operational and maintenance-related problems.
