In the *NRC Staff's Response to State of Utah's Security Plan Contentions," dated January 20, 1998, the Staff indicated that the Commission had promulgated a proposed revision to its l
physical protection requirements that apply to away-from-reactor independent spent fuel storage installations (ISFSis). /d. at 7 n.9, citing 60 Fed. Reg. 42079 (Aug.15,1995). The Staff further noted that the proposed rule codified existing practice and clarified the requirements applicable to away-from-reactor ISFSis. Id. at 8,9-10.
The m.; wishes to inform you that the final rule adopting the revised physical security plan i
requirements for away-from-reactor ISFSis was recently published in the Federal Register. See Final Rule, "Physicai Protection for Spent Nuclear Fuel and High-Level Radioactive Waste," 63 Fed. Reg. 26955 (May 15,1998). The final rule is effective on November 12,1998. Id.
