Dear Dr. Petrangeli:
As I promised you in my recent E-mail, attached is a draft report on a study performed for the Office for Analysis and Evaluation of Operational Data," Assessment of Pressurized Water Reactor Primary System Leaks." The report has been circulated to a number of industry and other organizations within the U.S. for comment. We intend to publish the final report in 1
September.
I do want to stress that the report is a draft and will be revised somewhat prior to final publication. Based on the comments received, the overall conclusions are sound and are unlikely to change. We do intend to delete estimates of loss of coolant accident frequencies, but retain the leak frequencies and associated causes. The discussions of pump seal experience and leak detection systems will be shortened, and the discussions of fatigue Induced failures and crack propagation will be clarified.
