DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50 446 GAMMA-METRICS NEUTRON FLUX MONITORS SDAR:

CP-89-003 (INTERIM REPORT)

Gentlemen:

On February 15, 1989. TU Electric verbally notified the NRC of a deficiency j

involving Gamma-Metrics supplied cable assemblies for post-accident neutron l

flux monitors.

Specifically, Gamma-Metrics has issued a 10CFR21 notification that addresses possible leaks in threads and solder connections of the neutron flux monitor cable assemblies.

This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e).

Further evaluation of this issue is required to determine potential impact on plant safety. The next report will be issued prior to Unit I fuel load.

Sincerely, Qdtf0'am h. Od h-William J. Cahill, Jr.
