We have noted a few discrepancies in the list of effective pages for the LERO plan.

Inform'the Suffolk County Executive that you will be contacting the Nassau County Executive to request the fo11owing11n-case an evacuation is recommended.

l.. Approval to conduct monitoring and decontamination of evacuees at LILCO facilities in Bellmore, Hicksville and Roslyn.

2.

Use of both the Nassau Colfreum and Nassau Community College as school relocation centers if schools are evacuated.

3.

Police' support and assistance with traffic control around both the LILCO and Nassau facilities.

4.

Use of the Nassau County Medical Center ~as a back up

. facility for treatment of contaminated injured evacuees.

If not at the EOC, end the call and continue with the Emergency Response Action Checklist. -Upon reperting to the LERO EOC, be.sure to coordinate emergency response activities with the Suffolk County Executive or his designated representative.

Specifically, be sure to obtain permission before making recommendations to the public concerning ingestion exposure pathway, or implementing recovery and reentry activities and EPZ perimeter access control.

If other resources vehicles or facilities that further aid the emergency respo,nse are identified, request that the Suffolk County Executive obtain them pursuant to Article 2B.

OPIP.3.6.2 POTASSIUM IODIDE DISTRIBUTION 1.0 PURPOSE

,To provide guidance and instruction for the authorization, dis-tribution, and administration of the thyroid blecking agent,.

potassium iodide (KI), to Local Emergency Respense Organization (LERO) emergency workers.

2.0 RESPONSIBILITY

.The Radiation Health Coordinator is responsible for conducting radiological assessment activities and providing recommendations to the Health Services Coordinator on the need and-timing for the issuance of potassium iodide.

Record Keepers are responsible for the field distribution and administration of pot,assium iodide.

Dosimetry Coordinator is responsible for telling the LERO emergency workers to take KI.

3.0 PRECAUTIONS 3.1 Pocassium iodide tablets have a thirty-six month shelf life.

Tablets should not be issued if they are beyond their indicated expiration date.

The bottles of potassium iodide are checked every three months as part of Emergency Equipment. Inventory, OPIP 5.3.1.

3.2 New York State officials'should be notified of projected doses to the thyroid and when KI is recommended for use by emergency workers.

Page 2.of 11 5.0 ACTIONS 5.1 Potassium Iodide Administration 5.1.1 Record Keepers a.

Upon arrival at the staging areas, remove the potassium fodide tablet bottles from their storage containers and verify that the bottles hsve not exceeded their established shelf life.

If bottles are out of date contact the Radiation Health Coordinator for replacement supplies.

b.

Administer one potassium fodide (KI) tablet l

to each emergency worker prior to their leaving the staging area and tell them not to swallow the tablet until told by their IERO l

supervisor.

c.

If KI usage has been ordered, the Dosimetry Record Keepers at the EWDF should fill out a.

Potassium Iodide Record Sheet (Attachment 4) upon the return of the Emergency Worker to the EWDF. Indicate the distribution of the tablet and instruct the individual to report the followin day (with his copy of the record sheet to receive the next tablet.

d.

Coordinate with the Radiation Health Coordin-l ator, to ensure that all individuals required to receive the tablets are provided for.

5.5.4-Request that all entrances to the facility be open.

If the Basketball court seats in the Physical Education Complex are retracted, request they be extended.

5.5.5 Advise the Special Facilities Evacuation Coordinator in the EOC via telephone of the available facilities and any problems that may be developing.

5.5.6 Direct personnel as follows (these staff members should be replaced by arriving bus drivers as soon as possible):

a)

Assign three staff members to the access

-areas, (positions 1, 2 and 3 in Att. 5) to give information sheets (Att. 7) to arriving e

parents.

b)

Assign a staff member to direct parking of arriving buses driven by LERO School Bus Drivers (position 4) as indicated on Att. 5.

c)

Have one staff member, with a box of instruction-packets, positioned at Station 9 (Att. 5) on the south side of the College.

bus drivers after they park their buses for unloading, o

As buses arrive, direct them to drop off the students on the south side of the college.

o LERO bus drivers should be directed to park their buses and report to Station 9 for an assignment in the relocation center.

o Non-LERO bus drivers should go to the EWDF.

5.5.7 LERO bus drivers will park their buses in Area 5 on both sides of Charles Lindbergh Boulevard.
