Dear Mr. Congel:
Enclosed is a copy of the final exercise report for the April 5,
- 1988, exercise of the offsite radiological emergency preparedness plans site-specific to the Limerick Generating Station. 'Ihis was a full-participatica exercise for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Berks, Chester,- arx1 thLgumry Counties, the support Counties of Bucks and Ichigh, and 43 risk municipalities. 'Ihis final exercise report was prepared by the Region III office staff of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
'Ihere was one deficiency identified during the exercise which involved Iower Pottsgrove 'Itsnship, Pennsylvania.
'Ihe overall response capability desordauted by the lower Pottsgrove 'Ibwnship Emergency Operations Center staff was not adequate to ensure that the health and safety of the
[
residents could be protected.
A remmlial exercise has been scheduled for June 14, 1989, with lower Pottsgrove Township.
You will be provided a copy of the remedial exercise report as soon as it W s available. In addition, there were a number of areas requiring corrective action.
The response from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to the areas requiring l
corrective actions are incorporated into the final report.
l Based on tne results 01 this exercise, the offsite preparedness at the Limerick Generating Station is not adequate to provide reasonable assarance that appropriate measures can be taken offsite to protect the health and safety of the public in the event of an accident.
If you should have additional questions, please contact Craig S. Kingo, Chief, Techr.ological Hazards Division, at 646-3026.
