On April 24-26, 1989, members of the NRC staff conducted an audit of Georgia Power Company's (GPC's) Detailed Control Room Design Review (DCRDR) program at Plant Hatch. At the exit meeting the NRC requested additional information in two areas: (1) a list of the " safety significant" human engineering discrepancies (HEDs) which would still remain after the Unit 1 1990 maintenance / refueling (M/R) outage; and (2) the NRC audit team noted that certain Post Accident Monitoring (PAM) instrumentation was not specifically highlighted on the main control roam  ;

panels at Plant Hatch. The NRC staff asked GPC to resolve this item, considering the DCRDR highlighting u thods used at other nuclear plants.

The enclosure contains a listing of the " safety significant" HEDs (by number) which will be remaining at the end of the 1990 M/R outage.

(Descriptions of each HED are contained in our Reference DCRDR submittal to the NRC.) Note that none of the most significant HEDs (i.e., Category

1) will be outstanding. Only 46 HEDs (out of approximately 760) will be left to resolve. Seven of these are Category 2 and the remaining HEDs  ;

are Category 3. (Category 3 HEDs are defined as those deficiencies which have a low probability of causing a human factors problem, but have been i identified as affecting safety-related equipment.)

The second NRC request was related to highlighting certain PAM instrumentation in the control room. Regulatory Guide 1.97 recommends this be done and most other utilities have implemented some sort of  ;

labeling. The NRC audit team suggested GPC review the highlighting l 8906020342 890530 M ,

Subsequent to the audit, the GPC DCRDR program manager visited the Peach Bottom facility to review their design. He have also compiled a list of PAM instruments .for demarcation.

~ A review of our DCRDR task analysis will be necessary to finalize this PAM list, and then the instrumentation

will .be highlighted in a manner similar to that used at Peach Bottom as .

part of our surface enhancement program. This task will be completed by i the end of the 1990 refueling outage.
