SUBJECT:

Management Meeting On April 18, 1989, representatives of Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation (WCNOC) met with Region IV staff in Arlington, Texas, to discuss WCNOC's program to improve the security systems at the Wolf Creek site. The primary discussion related to the assessment aids enhancement at Wolf Creek as detailed in Inspection Report 89-12.

During the meeting, the licensee described immediate and long range plans to correct the problems with the asser,sment aids system as well as improvements in other areas-of the security program. Findings in Inspection Report 89-12 are being addressed by the licensee as part of a long range security upgrade etfort.

Docket No. 50-482: Response to Violation 482/8912-01 Gentlemen:

Attached is Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation's (WCNOC) response to violation 482/8912-01 which wcs documented in Reference 1. Violation 482/8912-01 involved an inability to accurately assess intrusion alarms.

In Reference 2, WCNOC requested an extension to the due date for this response so that a meeting could be held to discuss this subject. On April 28, 1989, a meeting was held between WCNOC personnel and NRC Region IV personnel to discuss the circumstances surrounding this violation and also to discuss overall performance of the closed circuit television system at Wolf Creek. In a subsequent conversation with NRC Region IV personnel, it was agreed that this violation response would be submitted by May 19, 1989.

The attachment contains Safeguards Information in accordance with 10 CFR 73.21 and therefore should be withheld from public disclosure. This letter, when separated from the attachment, does not contain Safeguards Informstic; and should be handled as decontrolled.
