SUBJECT:
LOWMAN EROSION CONTROL PROJECT
Dear Mr. Edge:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has reviewed your submittal dated 1
March 31,1998, regarding the erosion control project for the Lowman, Idaho, Uranium Mill Tailings Disposal Site. Based on this review, we conclude that the proposed construction and erosion mitigation measures are acceptable.
l l
In letters dated March 13,1997, and February 2,1998, the NRC staff provided several j
recommendations and suggestions for the erosion control project. These recommendations l
were developed by the staff and its consultants at Colorado State University. Based on review of your proposal, it appears that you intend to adopt many of these recommendations.
The staff concludes that this program will have a beneficial effect on the overall stability of the site, although it is too early to judge its total effectiveness. We further conclude that the l
proposed measures will have no adverse effects on the stability of the site. Therefore, we consider the proposal to be acceptable.
This review was performed by Ted Johnson. If you have any questions, he may be contacted at (301) 415-6656.
Sincerely, l
