Dear Mr. Secretary:
Thank you for invitir.g me to participate in a special roundtable session on September 13, 1989, at the Sheraton Washington Hotel as part of the Histort-cally Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Conference in Washington, D.C.
I support the objective of the Conference to develop a Federal / private sector strategy for strengthening the HBCU Program. Unfortunately, I will not be able to be present on Wednesday, September 13, 1989, and therefore, the NRC will be. unable to participate in the Special Roundtable Session. However, I have asked Dr. Themis Speis, Deputy Director of the NRC Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research, to attend the conference as the representative of the Nuclear Regulatory Comission. The Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research has line responsibility for grants and contracts to HBCU's.
The NRC has given strong support over the years to the HBCU Program and we are prepared to assist in the development of new initiatives in further support of the aim of the Conference.
