SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-483/98-07 AND NOTICE OF VIOLATION
Dear Mr. Randolph:
From April 27 through May 1,1998, a radiation protection inspection which focused on the
refueling outage activities was conducted at your Callaway Plant reactor facility. The enclosed
report presents the scope and results of that inspection.
The inspection identified four violations of NRC requirements. The violations are cited in the
enclosed Notice of Violation and the circumstances surrounding them are described in detail in
the subject inspection report. The violations involved failure to: (1) conspicuously post a High
Radiation Area, (2) understand the work area radiological conditions and radiation work permit
restrictions / limitations, (3) label radioactive containers / packages, and (4) post two airborne
radioactivity areas.
These violations are cited in the enclosed Notice of Violation (Notice) and the circumstances
surrounding the violations are described in detailin the enclosed report. Please note that you
are required to respond to this letter and should follow the instru;;tions specified in the enclosed
Notice when preparing your response. The NRC will use your response, in part, to determine
whether further enforcement action is necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory
requirements.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter, its
enclosure (s), and your response will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).

with you.
