SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-483/98-05
Dear Mr. Randolph:
An NRC inspection of steam generator program activities was conducted during April 13-17,
1998, at your Callaway Plant reactor facility, with an exit meeting conducted at the conclusion of
the onsite inspection. The scope of the inspection included Refueling Outage RF9 steam
generator eddy current examination performance, updating of steam generator tube repair

history, and a review of steam generator examination program requirements. The inspection
j

was continued by inoffice review to permit review of the final eddy current examination results,
with the final information obtained during a May 1,1998, telephone call with Mr. M. Reidmeyer of
your staff. The enclosed report presents the scope and results of that inspection.
Overall, the results of the inspection indicate that you have addressed weaknesses observed
,
during the original steam generator inspection (NRC Inspection Report 50-483/96-10), with the
j
eddy current examination technology used and examination approach providing for early
detection of degradation in steam generator tubing.
in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its
I
enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
