___
May 5, 1998 Mr. Hyman Brenner 678 Washington Street #314 Lynn, MA 01902
Dear Mr. Brenner:
I am responding to your April 13,1998, public inquiry regarding technology successes (with particular reference to a technology originally used to detect chemical changes in nuclear weapons and its applicability to blood glucose meters) in non-medical areas that could be applied to medical areas. The U.S. Department of Energy and not the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has responsibility for nuclear weapons, chemical testing of nuclear weapons, and the technologies you referred to. Therefore, I faxed your request to Dr. Nestor Ortiz's office at the Department of Energy Sandia Laboratories.
If you have any additional questions, you may contact Dr. Ortiz's office at (505) 844-0577.
Sincerely (orig. signed by)
Larry W. Camper, Chief Materials Safety Branch Division of Industrial and Medical Nuclear Safety Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards f
