The Safety ofNuclear Power Plants: Fire Safety in the Operation ofNuclear Power Plants Any proposed changes or modifications of this document, resulting from the review by Member States and affecting the above mentioned Safety Standards Series document will be taken into account in the finalization of the draft.
This document is submitted in order to provide Member States and their experts the opportunity for a simultaneous review and evaluation of the document. The English version is enclosed.
Comments on the document should be provided in accordance with the attached short explanatory note.
The Secretariat of the Intemational Atomic Agency avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs the assurances ofits highest consideration.

Short Explanatory Note to J7-03.Cire The draft Safety Guide on the
" Code of the Safety of Nuclear Power Plants: Operation" on Fire Safety in the Operation of Nuclear Power Plants The document for review, entitled ' Fire Safety in the Operation of Nuclear Power Plants' is a Draft Safety Guide NS263 which was prepared within the Agency's Nuclear Safety Standards Series programme and has already been reviewed through consultants meetings and by Nuclear Safet. 9andards Advisory Committee (NUSSAC).
The objective of this revision, as accepted by the Advisory Commission on Safety Standards (ACSS), is to parallel the relevant requirements in the Dran Requirements documents "The Safety of Nucletr Power Plants : Operation", and to make recommendations related to the safety aspects of fire protection.
l This is a new Safety Guide which links directly to Chapter 3 of the draft Safety 1
Requirements. This draft has been produced by taking account of explanatory text of relevant sections of Safety Fundamentals "The Safety of Nuclear Installations", Safety 1
Series No. I10, and by taking int o account the Code on the Safety of Nuclear Power Plants:

Quality Assurance Safety Series No. 50-C/56.Q. The current regulatory and operational l
practices related to the establislunent and management of the operating organization for safe operation of nuclear power plants were also included.
The secretariat will take due account of all comments in preparing a final draft of j
this document which will be presented to NUSSAC for consideration and upon endorsement, will then be presented to ACSS. Upon approval by ACSS, the draft will go to the Director General for final approval for publication.
Any comments made shall be in English, and should draw attention to the relevant paragraph number in the document being reviewed, and when appropriate should propose attemative text. Please use the attached comment form for documenting all comments.
