Docket No. 50-482: Response to Ceneric Letter 89-08 Gentlemen The purpose of. this letter is to provide Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation's (WCNOC) response to NRC Generic Letter 89-08,

" Erosion / Corrosion-Induced Pipe Wall Thinning" in accordance with 10 CFR 50.54 (f).

In Generic Letter 89-08, all licenses were required to respond with information on whether or not a long term erosion / corrosion monitoring program has been implemented or

.will be. implemented that provides assurance that procedures or, administrative controls are in place to assure that the Nuclear Utility Management and Resource Council (NUMARC) program or another equally effective program is implemented and the structural integrity of all high-energy carbon steel systems is maintained.

As stated in WCNOC's response to NFC Bulletin 87-01 (ET 87-0272, dated 9/10/87),

procedure ADM 08-212

" Erosion / Corrosion Monitoring Program" was issued on July 17, 1987 to provide WCNOC a long term erosion / corrosion monitoring program.

This procedure outlines administrative controls, defines responsibilities, and provides step-by-step instructions for the implementation of the Wolf Creek Generating Station (WCUS) erosion / corrosion program.

The WCGS program has been implemented in accordance with NUMARC and Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) guidelines to monitor the effects of erosion / corrosion in both single phase and two phase systems.

This. program provides assurance, as required by Generic Letter 89-08, that erosion / corrosion will not effect the structual integrity of high energy carbon steel systems.

If you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact me or Mr. O. L.

Very truly yours,
