Steam Generator Tube Repairs Resulting from Byron Unit 2 Cycle 7 Refueling Outage Byron Nuclear Power Station Unit 2 Facility Operating License NPF-66 NRC Docket No. 50-455 This letter is to inform the Staff of steam generator (SG) tubes removed from service during the Byron Unit 2 Cycle 7 Refueling Outage (B2R07) inspections conducted in April and May of 1998.
This information if being reported pursuant to Technical Specification 4.4.5.5a.
The following eddy current inspections were performed during this outage:
100% full length Bobbin Coil Inspection in each SG.
100% top of tubesheet (Hot Leg) Plus-Point Inspection in each SG.
100% Row 1 and Row 2 U-Bend Plus-Point Inspection in each SG.
(
25 % Pre-Heater Baffle Plate Expansion Plus-Point Inspection in the 2A SG.
i Based upon the composite results of these inspections, the 2A,2B and 2C steam generators were i
classified as inspection category C-2 pursuant to Technical Specification 4.4.5.2. Steam generator 2D was classified as inspection category C-1.
As a result of the B2R07 eddy current inspections, a total of thirty eight (38) tubes were removed i
from service by tube plugging. The tube plugging distribution between steam generators is summarized in the below table:
