PERFORMANCE OF PROJECT FIN NO. A1764, TO FUND ADDITIONAL WORK As stated ~in the April 13,_1989' memo to Jesse Funches from' John Greeves concerning LLWM mid. year contractual actions, we request obligation of an additional'$10SK for FY89 to perform additional work under project FIN.NO.

Among the $108K,-it is estimated t.iat $60K is needed to accelerate the computer codes' selection process (Task 4) in the performance assessment ' project

'so that SNL can apply those codes to assist NRC, to perform a radiological assessment of the DOE Prototype License Application Review.

It is estimated Prototype License Application Reveiw ! provide-technical' assistance to the D that $20K will.be required for SNL to see attachment Subtask under Task 6 on.

4-ATTACHMENT Tas k _6 Short-Term Technical Assistance Subtask A:

Review and t.onduct Performance Assessment on DOE Prototype License Application.

The performing organization shall review the DOE Prototype License Application and provide the NRC Project Manager with comments on the license application. The performing organization shall also conduct an independent assessment on the radiological consequences resulted from DOE's proposed license application.

The radiological assessment shall include all pathway analysis to evaluate the resulting radiation dose to the general public from the operation of the LLW disposai' facility. The.

subtask will be initiated during July,1989 and the performing organization shall submit a. technical / letter report'to the NRC Project Manager within 4 months after. initiation of the subtask. The estimated level of effort for Subtask A is 7.2 staffweeks.

Subtask B: Develop computer codes to conduct Radiological Assessment' from Routine-and Accidental Releases from LLW Disposal Facility Operation.

The performing organization shall develop computer codes based on existing models to evaluate the radiological consequences from routine air effluent and accidental air effluent releases, covering fire and criticality accidentsasspecifiedinLLWStandardReviewPlan(SRP). The NRC Project Manager will provide guidance on models used for these radiological assessments.

The performing organization shall write computer programs to codify these models and ir. stall these codes in the SNL and NRC computer system. The performing organization shall complete and install the codes within 5 months after initiation of the work. A technical letter report shall be submitted to NRC Project Manager describing the codes. The report shall inc?ude sample calculations and a user's manual.

The estimated level of effort for Subtask B is 2.2 staff months.
