Gamma radiation at the surface is less than 1 5 mr per hour. l Instrumentation available in the laboratory for radiation i protection measurements include (a) thru (n) as listed in paragraph (6.) of the original letter of application dated May 27, 1968 and paragraph (7.) of renewal letter of application dated May 15, 1973 8. Personnel monitoring devices now used are the R. S. Landauer, Jr. and Company beta, gamma, neutron film badges with reports monthly. Also j available are CDV 138 (0-200 mr) pocket dosimeters. The source cavity and target ports of the howitzer are furnished with locks. Keys to these locks are available only to staff members of the Department of Physics. Posting-labeling of laboratory work and storage areas is maintained i in accordance with the requirements of 20.203 of CFR 20. Surveys of the laboratory working areas are made periodically. The neutron source is leak tested at six (6) month intervals using the wipe technique to determine the extent of removable alpha contamination; and less than 0.500 microcuries is regarded as acceptable. The most recent leak test results are: April 4, 1978; no detectable activity on wipe test from source or moderator container. l The authorized place of use will be the IIcensee's Nuclear I Physics and Research Laboratories located on the ground and first floors in Miller Hall. Thereaf ter, surveys of the labornicry working areas will be made periodically.
