The transmission through a 4,6,8 or 12 inch hollow concrete' block wall chall be assumed to be constant based on normal incidence since the absolute nominal thickness of the blocks remains approximately.three inches.

An example of the calculations and data used to determine shielding offects on alarm coverage is shown in Part II.

.3 Calibration and Testina Each monitor and alarm shall be calibrated quarterly and after each maintenance job.

The audible horn system shall be tested monthly by mechanically tripping the alarms.

The horn and alarm system shall be tested quarterly by activating the system with a radioactive source.

Where tests reveal inadequate performance, corrective action'shall be taken immediately.

4.5.2 Radiation Measurement Instruments A wide range of instrumentation is maintained by the Health Physics Section for surveying contamination and radiation levels and measuring radioactivity.. Sufficient units-shall be available to support all operations authorized at UNC Naval Products.

Typical survey equipment currently in use is tabulated in Table 4.5-1.

For particular measurement systems used to calculate concentrations of radioactive material, the lower limit of detection shall be evaluated.

A record of the evaluation.

shall be maintained.
