Dear Mr. MacDonald,
j l Re: Type B Certificate 9163 Since writing you on February 28, 1989 I have been able to obtain some additional information on the Model GNG-20, to answer questions raised in your l letter of August, 3, 1988 to my colleague Ms. Cathleen Roughan. There are differences in the drawings showing construction details of the internal cavity of the GNG20, because Gulf Nuclear customized the source holders for individual customers. Thus drawing NS-GH20-A is' that for the insert of the container Gulf supplied to Great Guns Logging, Wichita, Kansas. 4 Great Guns Logging have informed that the end plates of the GNG20 are welded on the cylinder which forms the body of the container. The lock latch and i handles are also welded on to the container. ) The attached drawings show the marking and identification submitted by Gulf Nuclear to NRC as part of their original request for certification of the GNG20. Following issuance of Certificate 9163, Gulf Nuclear tised the j following labels on the front plate of the GNG20 to comply with the I requirements of 10 CFR 71.85 (c). 1). Consequently we do not have acceptance tests, operating procedures or a maintenance program for. the GNG20. We do know that at least one of Gulf Nuclear's former customers.-is still using 'l the GNG20'..However, of~ Gulf Nuclear's former customers on your " List of Users for Certificate-9163 For Model GNG20", 01 Corporation. informed.me that they no longer use GNG20 packaging. I was informed that Petroleum Measurement . Corporation'had-moved from Houston to Fort Worth but:the telephone operator there could not find a listing for them. l.
