20555 PLANT HATCH - UNITS 1, 2 NRC 00CKETS 50-321, 50-366 OPERATING LICENSES DPR-57, NPF-5 RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 89-08 EROSION / CORROSION-INDUCED PIPE HALL THINNING Gentlemen:

On May 22, 1989, Ceorgia Power Company (GPC) received Generic Letter (GL) 89-08, "Erosior, Corrosion-Induced P Wall Thinning."

The GL to provide assurance ipe required licensees that formalized procedures or admiisistrative procedures were in place which would assure that an effective long term erosion / corrosion program was

(.or would be) implemented. An effective long term program will maintain thL structural integrity of all single phase and two phase high-energy carbon steel systems. Detailed information was not to be submitted for NRC review.

Georgia Power Company has implemented such a

long term erosion / corrosion program for Plant Hatch.

Formalized (controlled) program documents have been issued for both units.

Our program meets the intent of the NUMARC guidelines and programmatic controls govern surveillance of the structural integrity of the high-energy single phase and two-phase flow carbon steel systems.

This assures an effective long term program at Plant Hatch.
