Dear Senator Fowler,
As a resident of Southeast. Georgia,
- 1. am concerned about - the.-
health and safety of.my f amily and community in regards to thei
)
dangerous General Electric nuclear" power reactor at the Georgia' j
Power Facility in Baxley.
A 1975 report by G.E. engineers stated
/
that these type of reactors had containment vessels that are
" virtually certain" to f ail as early as 40 minutes into an accident, making evacuation almost impossible..
This " Reed ' Repor t" was
- kept secret by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission until.1987 1
by the N.R.C.,
when it was released under the pressure of state and local governments and safe energy groups.
j l
I urge you to have Congress work towards conducting an investigation into the problems of these General Electric reactors" nationwide-and also into the reasons why the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and G.E. have failed to address these problems and have?furthermore kept them secret.
Please let me know of your findings.
)
Sincerely, l
h
