Dear Mr. Dinitz:
Pursuant to Dow's request to obtain approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to cancel the captioned policies in order for Dov to self-assume our nuclear risk, you requested annual reports for.
The Dow Chemical Company for the years 1985, 1986, 1987 and the first six months of 1988. These were forwarded to you by Harrison Plum, Jr.
of this department on September 27,~1988.
It has now been a full year since our first fonnal request was sent to you (my letter of January 28, 1988). I wrote again on May 2 and August 25, 1988 requesting a response or advice on what steps need to be taken to get this approval we are seeking.
We understand that this is a new procedure and formal guidelines have not been established; however, the NUpIG/CR-4958. pNL-6233. Section 3.0-3.1. Page 3.1 outlines several options for us to assure our financial responsibility and Dow is prepared to provide one of these options. However, we cannot move this project along without assistance and guidance from your office.
Mr. Dinitz, would you please acknowledge my letters and advise what further steps need to be taken by Dow to obtain the approval needed to self-assume our nuclear risk at your earliest opportunity?
