_ Notice of Violation Response for Inspection Numbers 50-54/89-02; 70-687/89-02 Pursuant to the routine radiological controls inspection conducted by Mr. R. L. Nimitz at our site on March 28 - 31, 1989, Cintichem, ,Inc. submits the following in response to the identified violation from this inspection.

VIOLATION:

SNM License No. 639 requires in Section 3.2.1.1 that hand and foot counters capable of detecting alpha and or beta-gamma contamination, as appropriate, be provided at routine exits of the facility. Employees shall be required to monitor themselves and report contamination levels above alarm set points.

Contrary to the above, as of March 31, 1989 and for an undetermined period of time prior to this date, numerous

. individuals monitoring themselves for beta-gamma cor.tamination at the main exit from the facility, actuated counter alarm set points and the employees did not make notifications of the instances.

CINTICHEM RESPONSE:

A written general reminder has been distributed to all Cintichem employees stressing the importance of compliance with our safety procedures and policies at all times. Refresher training has been performed with specific departments regarding contamination control aspects of our operations, including personnel radiation control requirements. In addition, a contamination control handbook has been prepared to help provide further guidance to all personnel. To help avoid further violations in this area, management audits of our workplace have been increcced to help JJM/76.89B g51%$ $ 0 y ' '
