I am responding to your letter of April 13, 1989, in which you urge that the Commission move ahead with modifications to im-prove BWR Mark I containment performance. As you have noted..

the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards and our technical staff have given the Commission their' recommendations on this subject. The Commission is now considering these recommendations.

I want to assure you that the Commission is aware of your views on this subject and will carefully consider them in reaching a final decision. We will inform your State Liaison Officer of the Commission decision on this matter.
