SUBJECT:

COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)

DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 DESIGN GROUNDWATER ELEVATION SDAR: CP-88-23 (SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT)

Gentlemen:

On February 4,1988, TV Electric notified the NRC by final report TXX-88124 of a reportable deficiency involving the design basis groundwater level at CPSES.

The last report on this subject was logged TXX-89195, dated April 17, 1989.

The purpose of this supplemental report is to revise the corrective action.

In accordance with the corrective action specified in TXX-88124, a system of piezometers was installed around the perimeter of the plant and has been used for approximately one year to collect data regarding the groundwater table.

During the past year no significant groundwater seepage into Category I structures has been observed.

Previous reports of seepage have been attributed to incomplete construction or ongoing construction activities.

Based on the groundwater data collected and the lack of significant groundwater seepage, the proposed waterproofing of Category I structures and the proposed design modifications to improve leakage collection are no longer Sei'

Instead, existing floor drains and temporary puups (if required) will be utilized as part of the CPSES maintenance program to alleviate the effects of any groundwater seepage into Category I structures.
