TROJAN NUCLEAR PLANT Trojan Operating Report April 1989 OPERATIONS The plant entered the month operating quietly at 100% power in Mode 1. The annual refueling outage, which started April 6, has been extended from 60 to 65 days. The increase is due to additional scope of work necessary to replace or modify 82 potentially defective mechanical tube plugs in steam generators A, C and D and perform eddy current examinations of steam generator tubes in all four steam generators. Power reduction for the refueling outage began at 2000, hours on April 5, with the plant coming off line smoothly at 0022 hours on April 6. Sludge lancing was performed on the four steam generatois beginning April 13 and finishing April 19. Inspection of the main turbine and generator was begun April 11 and continued through the remainder of the month. During this inspection, examination of the main generator rotor bars disclosed an unacceptable amount of copper dust

  • and flakes. At the end of the month, corrective actions were being evaluated.

On April 25, in-service inspection of the reactor vessel was begun, and continued through the remainder of the month. The plant ended the month in Mode 6, with the reactor defueled and preparation for refueling.in progress. Preparing for the lifting of the reactor vessel head and the commencement of refueling operations. MAINTENANCE Significant maintenance completed during this period includes: Repaired body-to-bonnet leak on the "A" safety injection first-off check valve Replacement of degraded cables inside containment (in progress) Machined sealing surfaces of steam generator handholes to remove pitting APPROVED / PlariC96neral Manager
