Dear Mr. Durante:

Chairman Carr has requested that I respond to your letter dated June 25, 1989, concerning AECL Technologies' proposed presentation on July 13, 1989, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on the technical aspects of the CANDU 3 reactor r id AECL Technologies' licensing plan.

I understand that individual Commisst.oners have contacted you regarding their availability to attend.

Although such a presentation could be useful, I believe that the timing of the proposed meeting is premature.

In the meantime I recommend that AECL Technologies work with the NRC staff in reaching a mutually agreeable date and forum for such a meeting.

T;m NRC staff program manager for the CANDU 3 Standard Design Certification is Drew Persinko, who will serve as the PRC point of contact for all matters relating to the CANDU 3 licensing project.
