Technical Specification 3.14.B.2 requires a written report to be submitted within thirty days outlining plans and procedures used to provide for the loss of redundancy in the fire suppression water system. A loss of redundancy must be considered when a fire pump, or screenwash pump is inoperable for more than seven days.
On Tuesday, April 11, 1989, 21 and 22 Circulating Water pump suction bays were isolated and drained.
This rendered 121 screenwash pump inoperable.
121 screenwash pump is part of the fire suppression water system. The screenwash pump was out of service for eight days.
To provide assurance of fire suppression water redundancy during this period, both the motor driven and the .esel driven fire pumps were run daily as required by Technical Specification 4.16.B.2 to verify their operability.
In
<sddition, the crostie to the safety grade cooling water system was availabic to provide a backup water supply to the fire protection system.
These actions would have assured adequate fire protection system redundancy during both normal, and emergency operating situations.
