POWER COMPANY OPERATING LICENSE CONCERNING SPENT FUEL SHIPPING CASKS This acknowledges your letter dated January 26, 1989 in which you requested that the subject proposed license amendment not be acted upon until the State j of Maine has had 180 days from the date of receipt of certain references from i the-Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company. Those_ references concern the subject l

proposed license amendment in the area pertaining to Spent Fuel Shipping Casks' being lifted over the Spent Fuel Storage Pool. 1 i i" l

Please note that the notice for the proposed amendment was published in the Federal Register on Thursday, December 8, 1988 (Vol.-53. No~. 236, Page 49619).

The period for comment on that proposed change expired January 9, 1989.

Because of limited resources available to NRC,. however, the proposed change is i

not of high priority and it will take approximately 10 months for the' completion of the staff's review and a subsequent decision regarding. issuing.

the proposed amendment. This should provide sufficient' opportunity for the State to interact with the Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company regarding.the proposed amendment.
