This Special Report is submitted in accordance with LaSalle Unit 1 Operating License NPF-ll, Appendix A, Technical Specification 3.3.7.9 and 6.6.C.
Due to spent fuel pool rack modification work, it was necessary to remove from operable service fire detection zone 1-26 (Unit 1 Reactor Building - 843' elevation) on March 26, 1989. This measure was taken as a conservative precaution to prevent spurious zone fire alarms which would result due to increased background radiation levels associated with this work.
In accordance with Action Statement "a" of Technical Specification 3.3.7.9, a fire watch patrol was established to inspect the affected zone at least once per. hour.
The smoke detectors have been out of service in excess of the allowed fourteen (14) day timeclock prior to requiring a Special Report. Fire detection zone
. will be returned to service upon completion of the work in the vicinity of the fire detectors. This work is expected to be completed in July, 1989.
