TROJAN NUCLEAR PLANT Trojan Operating Report June 1989 OPERATIONS The plant began the month in Mode 5, with steam generator inspections in progress, and the reactor refueled.
Eddy Current testing on the four steam generators was begun May 22. On June 12 unexpected tube flaws were found in the "B" steam generator consisting of circumferential cracks from the inside diameter of the tube, just below the top of the tube sheet. Additional testing of all steam generator tubes, on the hotleg side, for the presence of circumferential cracks was determined to be required. Tubes with significant circumferential cracking will be stabilized to prevent them from damaging adjacent tubes if they should fail during the next cycle. Tube testing, plugging and stabilizing in all four steam generators continued through the end of the month.
Testing of Electrical Penetration connections commenced on May 3. A couple of electrical cable wires had pulled loose from a containment electrical penetration assembly during seal replacement. Several more connections pulled loose during testing and the scope of the work was increased to test more connections. The testing continued through the end of the month.
Flux thimble testing was conducted from May 21 to May 25. The evaluation of l testing was completed at the beginning of this month and nine thimble tubes I have been plugged due to unacceptable amounts of thinning in their walls.
On June 7 the plant suffered a minor fire (smoke only) due to a rub between the rotor and stator in the "B" Circulating Water Pump. This rub damaged several windings in the pump and it has been sent to California for repair.
The repairs may not be complete until after the expected startup date in July.
The plant may be limited to the 50-60% power range until the damaged pump is returned to service.
The plant ended the month in Mode 5, with steam generator inspections in progress, and the reactor drained to 60' 9" and vented.
l MAINTENANCE l
Significant maintenance completed during this period includes:
Reactor Coolant Pump flange bolt work.
Main Turbine Generator cleaning and reassembly.
Main Turbine Diaphragm repair and reassembly.
Relocation of the Hydrogen Tanks APPLOVED M Pla efal Manager 1
