TVA letter to NRC dated December 28, 1988 This submittal provides.TVA's schedule for work associated with the resolution of Inspection Report 50-327, 328/88-12, unresolved items 88-12-05 and 88-12-09.. It.also provides two refinements to the action plan as it'was described in the enclosure to Reference 1.

TVA's anticipated schedule for starting to drill at the roadway access cells is July 24, 1989. Completion is expected approximately one month later. The drilling would then start in element D of the pumping station on approximately August 28, 1989. Completion of the pumping station work is expected by l

approximately October 16, 1989.

The two refinements of the original plan involve the definition of the grouting pressure'to be used for the pumping station and the hole drilling i

depth into rock.

These refinements have been agreed to by TVA's consultants.

l TVA has established a maximum grouting pressure in the pumping station of l

15 pounds per square inch at elevation 625.0 feet, the bottom of the intake liner. This will ensure that grouting does not develop pressures exceeding the calculated allowable stress for the steel intake liner.

TVA will drill five feet into sound rock at each location to investigate the concrete / rock interface. Coring five feet into sound rock will provide sufficient information for evaluating the interface to meet the program requirements.

As required by TVA's commitment No. 3 in Enclosure 1 of Reference 2, NRC's written concurrence with the two proposed program refinements is requested.
